Complete Hotend Cover including half-circle print cooling and a mount for a LED strip.
Fits the original Anycubic „BOOSFAN JD4512M12“ and any 40 x 10 mm fan for extruder cooling, in my case the Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX.

Yes, it is a little bit expensive, but quiet and has a MTBF of 150.000+ hours, max. 17.9 dB(A).

Btw: I have printed it with PLA, but added enough structure to prevent bending of the fan duct. Without them the right lower fan duct part began to drop down, but with the reinforcements it works well. Hopefully lasts.

I have done several changes to the original to make it fit better on the Mega-S and reduce the needed support:

  1. I have moved the rear blower about 5mm away from the nozzle (was not centered), so hopefully PLA will be fine again, as I am having difficulties printing a ring-style one in ABS.
  2. added more robust screw holes
  3. modified some walls so my original Mega-S part cooling fan fits
  4. reduced the amount of support needed by adding slopes

Here’s my remixed half-circle version for the Mega-S:

EDIT: added an updated version with lower fan ducts

I have replaced the upper mounting part with the one I have made for the „Fan Duct Two-Sided (Remix)“ thing:3719846 and added some mm to the half-circle part, so it is has more distance to the heating block. I have printed this in PLA, so I was concerned about the minimal distance, although it was perfectly centered around the nozzle, the heating block is wider to the right …). The resulting air-flow cross-section will be more egg-shaped instead of round, but still 180°. Works fine so far!

Changed:

  • fan mount region, now fits (my) original Mega-S part fan
  • screw holes (no nut needed)
  • added 45° walls to overhangs
  • added about 3mm in width to maintain distance to the heating block

EDIT: just did a small temperature tower from 195 – 220 °C – NO obvious problems for bridging at all, none, zero! Will try special bridge tests and edit again …

EDIT: If you’re planning to print this in PLA be aware that at least with the PLA filament I had chosen the right side of the half-circle fan blow-out kept sagging down. So I did a complete Hotend cover for the needed structural strength even with PLA, keeps its shape since several print now:

If you do not want to print a complete cover and get rid of the sagging when using PLA, you might also want to take a look at Gandalf420’s solution here:

Echo Dot 3rd Gen Desk Stand – Two Parts

Here are many parts to mix’n’match. I did not print-test every single model and combination (e.g. smooth base and smooth top work fine).

One primary goal was to not cover the light ring, so I didn’t. 🙂

Oh, I do not expect anyone to try the lattice base, this is more of a test – but if you want to stress test retraction (and computing the gcode, because this takes quite some time)… go for it. Dont‘ forget to post your make – THX 😉

Desktop stand for the Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation I have fiddled together. This is already the second version, but there are still improvements to make. The back wall is a little weak and the base should be 3mm higher. Besides those two minor things it fits and works fine.
The two slots on the bottom are for „hot glue feet“, but you can attach some glue-on feet as well, of course.

EDIT: added v3.1 as 3mf with parts and stl (smoothed)
EDIT 2019-07-03: added v3.5 as 3mf with parts, stl (smoothed) stl (smoothed arch) // redesigned AGAIN 😀

The new Apple Mac Pro is great, but the Mac mini and iMac don’t fill in all the gaps.

Apple announced the new 2019 Mac Pro to much fanfare. Finally, a modular Mac that permits for user-upgradability thanks to socketed CPU and RAM, removable storage, and the ability to use off-the-shelf GPUs supported my macOS Catalina. But at $6,000, there are a lot of professionals that feel underserved by the base-model Mac Pro but find themselves needing more than what the iMac offers. There are also those who need the power of Mac Pro but want a less expensive version of the ProDisplay XDR. You know, one that doesn’t have a $1,000 stand. The current options on the market just don’t hold a candle to Apple’s 5K/6K displays. In this video, we talk about the perfect computer for a lot of people that Apple should make: the Mac Pro mini.
