I recently switched to another Anit-Virus solution, because the one I've used before became more and more bloated with every version. At the same time test results (e.g. at av-test.org or av-comparatives.org) dropped rapidly, so I've decided to switch my antivirus solution to Panda Cloud Antivirus.
Panda Cloud Antivirus is based on Collective Intelligence, a system that continuously collects and analyzes viruses and other threats gathered from the community of millions of Panda users around the world.
So far I am very satisfied with this software, especially because of:
- it is very light, no more bloated software packages
- no custom user interface to fiddle with (you know... those 5+ level deep menu structures you easily get lost in)
- in fact you basically just turn it on or off
- it is cloud-driven, that's why it is so light
- basic version is free
One minor problem affected my system though - the background scanner was not working the way it should resulting in CPU usage spikes especially noticeable during gaming sessions. I did not find much informations about this specific problem, but I guess it's related to my system, and no common problem.
In case you actually do run into the same trouble, I've prepared two simple registry files for enabling/disabling background scanning by just double-clicking the according .reg file.
Don't worry about your system being less secure when turning off the background scan though. On-the-fly scanning still performs well, when you open a file, website or anything else.
Finally, the two registry files for you to download:
